December 2020

Saturday 12th

I got this book by E. M. Cioran, a Romanian nihilist philosopher, called The Trouble With Being Born. Maybe I'm just dumb, but sometimes it feels like he's saying a lot without really saying anything. I was never one for literary analysis or the like, so my loss I suppose.

Winter holidays begins once this week is over, looking forward to that.

I altered the YWOT archive to show thumbnails instead of loading all the gigantic screenshots at once on the gallery page, meaning it'll load a lot faster.

Monday 28th

I released a new album yesterday evening called Against the Tide. The songs inside are the results of my investment into a little music education, which unfortunately was a little disrupted by my job but I still learned a lot. The only problem is that I wasn't quite sure what I was going for with these pieces, but at least they feel like they all belong on the same album, so there's that.

The main themes of the album are change and not really knowing what to do. I'm seriously thinking of changing career next year from teaching to web development, something filled with plenty of uncertainty and worry, and it looks like it was a big influence as I produced the album.

It's a little rough around the edges and could be improved/built upon for sure, but I think this is good enough for now. I promised myself I'd release whatever I had come up with by the end of the year and I'm really happy I managed to meet that.

The question now is, what next? I have some ideas, but I think I'll spend the rest of my holiday taking it easy. January and February are going to be stressful months at work, so perhaps my next work will reflect that.

My 3 month trial of Ableton Live 10 Suite is due to run out soon, so I'll probably buy it shortly. Now that I've gotten this far, it's likely to be a worthwhile purchase.
