June 2021

Monday 5th

A few days ago, on June 29th, I took 3 tabs of LSD - the second LSD trip I've ever had. It turned into an especially pleasant experience and thankfully I kept a log of my thoughts throughout the experience. These 16 pages of unintelligible drivel can be found below if you are curious.

Listening to music on LSD is incredible, would recommend.

Speaking of music, I've been working on my music since my last journal entry and finally got an album together. I feel like I've learned a lot from the production of these songs and I have a better idea as to what I need to do next and what sort of music I want to make. Some parts of this album feel a little awkward to me, but I think I'm starting to figure things out. Just gotta keep learning, analysing and producing.

I'm pleased with the length. It's 2.5 times longer than my previous album and hopefully demonstrates that I'm getting somewhere musically, especially compared to my older stuff.

I've been working on analysing various songs and genres lately. Stuff like synthwave, deep house and psytrance. I've only just started scratching the surface, but really trying to listen to the instrumentation and breaking down arrangements goes a long way to getting a better understanding of how music can be put together.

House seems to be a genre I'm fond of, so I ended up making a house version of 動く、動く, the opening theme to Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou. I've been meaning to do something like this since last year, but I lacked the confidence and knowledge to pull it off. I played it relatively safely when putting this together, but I feel like it turned out well.

I just wonder how long I'll be able to keep up this level of effort. It's great getting lost in the DAW and one's work, but I know I'll tire of it eventually. I'm on holiday at the moment so I don't want to waste yet another summer by playing video games or something.

So long as I do a little each day, that should be enough.
